3. Transfer Photos from Camera using Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader.
In this post we will not be discussing the first method of transferring photos from camera to computer first and then transferring them to iPad or iPhone from the computer.
Transfer Photos Using Lightning to USB Camera Adapter
Follow the steps below to import photos from a digital camera to your iPad using the Lightning to USB Camera connector.
1. Connect the USB cable to the Camera (use the USB cable that came with the camera).
2. Next, connect the lightning end of the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter to your iPad or iPhone.
As you can see in the image below, the Lightning Adapter has a lightning end and a USB end.

3. Now connect the USB end of the adapter to the USB cable that you connected to the Camera in step#1 above.
4. Turn on the Camera and make sure it is in transfer mode.
Make sure you refer to the documentation that came with the Camera in case you are not sure about this.
5. Turn on the iPad or iPhone and unlock its screen.
6. Photos should automatically open on your iPhone or iPad with the Import tab. If this does not happen, open the Photos app and tap on Import.
7. Tap Import All in case you want to import all the photos. If you only want to import selected photos, tap individual photos, and then tap Import.

8. When the import is complete, you may get an option to Keep or Delete the media on the camera.
You can now disconnect the USB cord and the lightning adapter, since you have successfully imported photos from your digital camera to your iPad/iPhone.
Transfer Photos Using The Lightning to SD Card Reader
You can also import photos from the SD card of your digital camera to iPhone or iPad using the Lightning to SD card reader.
1. Remove the SD card from your digital camera and place it into the Lightning to SD card reader.
Do not try to force the SD card into the slot of the SD card reader, just try to insert the SD card and it should go in without any problem (the card fits only one way into the slot).
2. Connect the SD card reader with SD card in it to your iPhone or iPad.
3. Next, turn on the iPad/iPhone and unlock its screen.
4. Usually photos should automatically open on your iPhone or iPad with the Import tab. If this does not happen, open the Photos app and tap on Import.

Importing Photos From Camera in Older Models of iPad and iPhone
You need to be aware that Apple’s Lightning to USB Camera adapter and Lightning to SD card reader work only with the newer models of iPhone and iPad – iPad 4th Gen, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6/6 Plus and iPhone 6s/6s Plus.
For older models of iPad (original iPad, iPad 2, and iPad 3rd Gen models) you will need to use the iPad Camera Connection Kit that is available for $29 from Apple.
This kit includes a pair of adapters to connect a camera to any iPad via USB cable or transfer photos directly from an SD card (See image below).
